Badminton Success and Table Tennis Heartbreak

  • On Day 5 of the Paris Olympics 2024, India showcased strong performances across various sports including badminton, table tennis, shooting, boxing, archery, and equestrian events.
  • In badminton, PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, and HS Prannoy all secured victories in their matches, advancing to the round of 16.
  • Conversely, in table tennis, India experienced disappointment as Manika Batra and Sreeja Akula were eliminated in the round of 16.

Shooting: Mixed Results

  • The shooting events offered mixed results for Indian fans. Swapnil Kusale achieved seventh place in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions qualification, earning a spot in the final.
  • However, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar did not fare as well, finishing 11th in the qualification round and missing out on the final.
  • In the women's trap qualification, Shreyasi Singh and Rajeshwari Kumari ended Day 2 in 23rd and 22nd positions, respectively.

Boxing and Archery Highlights

  • In boxing, Lovlina Borgohain and Nishant Dev won their round of 16 bouts, advancing to the quarterfinals.
  • Archery saw a return to form for Deepika Kumari, who won her women's individual round of 32 match and moved on to the round of 16. Unfortunately, Tarundeep Rai was not as fortunate and was eliminated in the men's individual event.

Day 6: A Packed Schedule with Key Events

Morning Session: Race Walks and Badminton Clash

  • The morning of Day 6 will feature a variety of events with medals up for grabs. The day will start with Akshdeep, Vikash, and Paramjeet Singh competing in the men's 20km race walk final. Priyanka Goswami will also compete in the women's race walk final.
  • In badminton, HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen will face off in a highly anticipated men's singles round of 16 match, while the Indian men's hockey team will take on Belgium in their Pool B fixture.

Afternoon Session: Shooting and Boxing

  • Swapnil Kusale will compete in the 50m rifle 3 positions men’s final at 1:00 PM IST, aiming for a medal.
  • The first half of the day will conclude with Nikhat Zareen's women's 50kg round of 16 bout. Additional archery events will feature Sift Kaur Samra and Anjum Moudgil in the women’s 50m 3 position rifle qualification.

Evening Session: Sailing and Badminton Doubles

  • The evening will spotlight sailor Vishnu Saravanan in his event. Following this, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will compete in their men's doubles badminton quarter-final clash.
  • After 7:00 PM IST, sailor Nethra Kumanan will be in action, and the night will conclude with PV Sindhu’s round of 16 clash in badminton.
