1 soldier, 1 brave dog and 2 terrorists killed in Jammu and Kashmir
Increased security measures have been implemented in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir as an ongoing encounter between security forces and terrorists enters its second day.
The encounter operation which started on Tuesday has resulted in the killing of 2 terrorists and one Indian soldier. 3 other security personnel including Indian Army soldiers and Special Police Officer (SPO) fore personnel have been injured in the fire fight.
"One terrorist neutralized; One Army jawan lost his life, three others, including one police SPO, injured in the ensuing encounter in Rajouri district" said Mukesh Singh, Additional Director General of Police(ADGP) in while providing update on the situation.
In a poignant display of valor, a six-year-old female Labrador named Kent sacrificed her life while shielding her handler during the encounter. Kent, a member of the 21 Army Dog Unit, was leading a group of soldiers in pursuit of fleeing terrorists when they came under heavy fire. Kent's sacrifice occurred during 'Operation Sujaligala.'

This recent encounter follows last week's successful joint operation conducted by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir police in the Reasi district, which resulted in the elimination of a terrorist. The operation also led to the recovery of war-like stores, including an AK series assault rifle with magazines.
Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi made remarks on terrorists coming from Pakistan by saying "Pakistan is trying to send foreign terrorists to create disturbance in India. 2.25 crore tourists are expected to visit J&K this year, and Pakistan is trying to stop this from happening. We will not let Pakistan succeed".
The security forces have remained vigilant in the region, as evidenced by the Indian Army's demolition of an improvised explosive device (IED) on September 3.
A mere fortnight ago, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) apprehended two individuals who were found to be sheltering the terrorists responsible for the January assault in Dhangri village within Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district. This attack tragically claimed the lives of five innocent civilians. The NIA subsequently assumed control of the case, initially reported at Rajouri Police Station, and formally re-registered it on January 13. The case was filed under a range of legal provisions, including those outlined in the Indian Penal Code, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967, and the Arms Act.
