In a groundbreaking development, Havildar Preeti Rajak, a renowned trap shooter, has made history by becoming the first woman in the Indian Army to be promoted to the rank of Subedar. The army announced this significant achievement in a statement on Saturday, highlighting her outstanding performance.

Describing her accomplishment as an "extraordinary display of Nari Shakti," the statement emphasized Rajak's exceptional skills in trap shooting. She joined the Corps of Military Police in December 2022, earning her place on the basis of her stellar performance in the shooting discipline. Notably, she became the first meritorious sportswoman in shooting to be enrolled in the army as a havildar.

"The remarkable achievements of Subedar Preeti Rajak serve as a beacon of inspiration for generations of young women, encouraging them to forge their path within the Indian Army and excel in the realm of professional shooting," said the Army.

Rajak's prowess was further demonstrated at the 19th Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou, China, where she clinched the silver medal in the trap women team event. In recognition of her exceptional achievements, she was granted the first out-of-turn promotion to the rank of Subedar.

Lieutenant General Gajendra Joshi, commandant of the Infantry School, presided over the pipping ceremony, commending the shooter for her outstanding performance. Currently ranked 6th in India in the trap women event, Rajak is undergoing rigorous training at the elite Army Marksmanship Unit in Mhow, gearing up for the upcoming Paris Olympics.

This historic milestone not only marks Rajak's personal triumph but also underscores the Indian Army's commitment to recognizing and promoting exceptional talent within its ranks.
