India Boosts Coastal Security ICGS Shaurya Joins Gujarat Coast Guard Fleet
The ship carries cutting-edge navigation, communication and surveillance systems, complemented by an integrated platform management system.
Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Shaurya, an Offshore Patrol Class Vessel, Indian Coast Guard Ship arrived at Porbandar on 02 April 2026.This strategic positioning bolsters the Indian Coast Guard's operational prowess along the pivotal Gujarat coastline. A proud testimony to India's indigenous shipbuilding excellence, ICGS Shaurya was designed and constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited.
The vessel spans approximately 105 metres in length and 13.6 metres in breadth, with a displacement of around 2,300 tonnes. The vessel attains speeds of up to 23 knots and boasts an endurance of 20 days with a formidable range of 6,000 nautical miles, purpose-built for relentless offshore patrolling.
The ship carries cutting-edge navigation, communication and surveillance systems, complemented by an integrated platform management system. The CRN-91 main gun fitted onboard lends the ship a decisive edge in maritime enforcement. ICGS Shaurya is capable of embarking twin-engine Advanced Light Helicopters and deploy high-speed interceptor boats for swift response operations.
Conceived as a versatile multi-mission ship, the basing of vessel at Gujarat will spearhead maritime surveillance, search and rescue missions, anti-smuggling drives, law enforcement patrols and serve as a guardian of the marine ecosystem as well. It’s presence at Porbandar will sharpen the Coast Guard's vigil across the North Arabian Sea and fortify the defence of national coastal frontiers.
The vast fishermen community operating off Gujarat will also benefit from it’s protective reach. Basing of ICGS Shaurya reaffirms the enhanced focus of the Government to uphold safety, security and environmental stewardship across the Area of responsibility in the sensitive North West Region.
