The nation is celebrating Indian Army Day on January 15 by expressing gratitude and paying tribute to the Army for serving the country and protecting it.

Indian Army Day is celebrated every year on January 15 as this was the day on which Field Marshal KM Cariappa took charge of the Indian army from General Sir Francis Roy Bucher in the year 1949 and became the first Indian to command the Army.

Army Day is celebrated every year to celebrate the Indian Army which has always stood by the nation in every crisis. On one side, the Indian Army has fought wars and protected/defended the country, and on the other side, the Indian Army has also rescued people stuck in Disasters. All this has been done selflessly for the country.

This day is also important to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers who have lost their lives in the name of duty towards the nation. Soldiers and officers have lost their lives in wars, conflicts, difficult terrains/conditions, and in disasters while being on duty. The nation also expressed gratitude towards those Army personnel.

Army Chief Manoj Pande

Army Chief Manoj Pande conveyed his warm wishes to Army personnel of all ranks, veterans and their families, and civilian employees on Army Day while addressing Personnel. He also paid homage to the brave comrades who laid down their lives in the service of the country.

He further talked about the increased significance of technology upgradation for the military. He emphasized that the  Army is continuously focusing on technology for transformative change while being on the path of Aatmanirbharta.  The chief said "The character of warfare continues to change. To prepare ourselves for the future, we set into motion a holistic transformation process last year. We have made good progress and many milestones have been achieved. Our capability development endeavors stand on the edifice of Atmanirbharta, to which we are firmly committed. The transition towards becoming a modern, agile, adaptive, and technology-enabled future-ready force shall continue as part of the Transformation Roadmap."
