Interesting Things to know about Indian Coast Guard Day

<p>India is the 7th largest country in the world surrounding 75000 km of of its border by water. A major part of the nation is surrounded by water therefore it becomes crucial to secure the borders well. India in its history already witnessed the entry of Foreign tribes from the sea. Initially after the Independence,  the responsibility of securing the Nation was in the hands of the Indian Navy itself. But after fighting two wars with the neighboring country, the need to make a separate force that looks towards security of the sea borders was felt. Therefore Indian Coast Guard was established on 1st February 1977, by the Defence Ministry of India. On the recommendation of this committee, Indian Coast Guard Force was formed on 18th August 1978.
Indian Coast Guard Force looks after any illegal and unsecured movements taking place near the sea borders. Its work is to prevent any activities on the sea borders that harms India socially, economically, and politically.
