President Launches INS Vindhyagiri, a step towards AtmaNirbhar Bharat
President Smt Droupadi Murmu launched INS Vindhyagiri on 17th august. The name derives from the mountain range of Karnataka.

Who Made the Ship?
INS Vindhyagiri is indigenously manufactured by the Kolkata based Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau. this was formerly known Indian Navy's Directorate of Naval Design. This is an independent organization of Indian Navy which is highly equipped to manufacture warships and submarines. Warship Design Bureau is currently headed by RAdm IB Uthaiah, took succeeding RAdm Bimal Kumar on 01 February 2023.

Why Name it INS Vindhyagiri?
Basically this ship is constructed under the Project 17 Alpha of the INDIAN NAVY. This will have a series of 7 s stealth guided-missile frigates. a frigate is a small and fast ship. 5 predecessors of Vindhyagiri namely INS Nilgiri, Udaygiri, Himgiri, Taragiri, and Dunagiri were already launched between 2019-2022. This is the 6th Ship of the series. All of these ae named after mountain ranges.

This ins Vindhyagiri also pay tribute to the the old INS Vindhyagiri which was decommissioned after 31 years of service from 1981-2012 who witnessed challenging operations.
Features of INS Vindhyagiri
The speed of INS Vindhyagiri is 28 tons and displacement of over 6,670 tonnes. This frigate is capable to counter with all kinds of threats whether it is from air, surface or underwater. the newly inaugurated INS vindhyagiri will go under extensive trials before it is commissioned for service.

Indian President SMT DROUPADI MURMU launched the ship from the banks of river Hugli by performing a small ritual. In her speech she said- " Vindhyagiri is also a step towards achieving the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat through indigenous shipbuilding". the president further added Project 17A of which Vindhyagiri is a part, reflects our commitment to self-reliance and technological advancement. This project demonstrates indigenous innovation for developing state-of-the-art technology. I have been informed that the multi-mission frigates of this series would be capable of dealing with all kinds of threats to our maritime interests".
