Sikkim Floods: Indian Air Force on mission to rescue people
Indian air force has always been present at the scene when the country has needed. Sikkim has been struggling from the flash floods. Indian Air Force stepped up to join the rescue and relief operation. IAF deployed Mi-17, Ch-47 Chinooks aircrafts and Cheetah Helicopter to provide relief.
These aircrafts and helicopters were used to provide essential items and also to evacuate people stranded in remote areas. The Air force was responsible to landing 9400 kg of relief material for the stranded people. A total of 176 people were rescued by the force on October 10, Tuesday. Amongst here 176 people, 16 were foreign nations who were airlifted by the Air Force.
On October 9, Monday, the IAF airlifted 77 tourists were also airlifted form Lachung to Pakyong airport. These 77 people included 7 were children. These people were airlifted by MI -17 and Chinook helicopter from Lachung to Pakyong Airport and then a bus was made available to take them to Siliguri in West Bengal.

The Eastern Air Command has taken the task of providing relief to people stranded in the flood struck state. The IAF will be undertaking the Humanitarian and Disaster Relief (HADR) operation to reach out to flash flood victim.
In total of 690 people have been been evacuated by Air force using these aircrafts. Amongst these people, 26 are foreigners from Lachen nd Lachung towns north Sikkim since Monday.
Indian Air force along with Indian Army and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have joined hands to provide relief to people and rescue the stranded ones.

On October 4, a cloudburst in the Lhonak Lake of Sikkim caused flash floods in the Teesta river which flows from Sikkim and then to West Bengal. Sikkim Floods have caused disruption in the lives 87,300 people who lived in the nearby towns and villages.
