Three terrorists shot in Baramulla after fierce Gunfight
Commander of the Pir Panjal Brigade, Brigadier PMS Dhillon, said that the Indian Army along with Jammu and Kashmir Police foiled a major attempt of infiltration by shooting down 3 terrorist in Kashmir along the Line of Control(LoC) in Uri, Baramulla district.
The commander said that the forces were able to retrieve the bodies of two terrorists while they could not manage to retrieve the body oft the third terrorist as their action was disturbed by the firing from the Pakistani side. " Based on specific inputs, in a joint operation launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, an infiltration bid was foiled today in Baramulla. Three terrorists tried to infiltrate and were engaged by alert troops. Two terrorists were eliminated and their bodies were recovered, the third terrorist was killed but the retrieval of the body was interfered with by the firing from a Pakistani post in the vicinity. Search operations are underway" said the brigadier.
In a statement the army said that three terrorists made attempts to infiltrate in the Hathlanga forward area of Uri at 6:45am. Upon being spotted, the terrorists initiated gunfire, leading to the encounter in the operation Khanda. In the ensuing gunfight, two terrorists were neutralized, and their bodies were retrieved.
However, during the retrieval of the third terrorist's body, the Indian Army encountered heavy firing from the Pakistani side, complicating the operation. Search operations are currently ongoing in the area.
This incident unfolded in the midst of an ongoing operation in Anantnag district, where security forces are engaged in neutralizing terrorists who have entrenched themselves in the forested terrain. The gunfight in Anantnag has persisted for four days.
In a statement by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, it was emphasized that this operation was not based on an "Ambush Hypothesis" but rather on specific intelligence inputs. The security forces remain committed to neutralizing the two to three trapped terrorists.

Tragically, during the ongoing encounter, a soldier who had been reported missing earlier lost his life. In addition, a senior Army colonel from the Rashtriya Rifles, along with an Army major and a Deputy Superintendent of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, succumbed to enemy fire in the Kokernag area. The deceased senior officers were identified as Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonak, and DSP Humayun Bhat. The Army has maintained a stringent cordon in the affected region.
