Udhampur Railway Station Honors Captain Tushar Mahajan, the Courageous Braveheart

In a poignant gesture of remembrance and respect, Udhampur Railway Station was officially renamed as the 'Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan Railway Station.' This renaming ceremony took place following an announcement by Union Minister Jitendra Singh and was met with approval from the Jammu and Kashmir administration.

The Northern Railway, on a significant Saturday, notified the change in nomenclature, cementing the station's new identity. The notification from Northern Railway read, "It is notified for the information of the general public that with immediate effect, the name of UDHAMPUR (UHP) Railway Station in Firozpur Division of Northern Railway has been changed to 'Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan' (MCTM) Railway Station."

Captain Tushar Mahajan, a valiant officer in the Indian Army, was the embodiment of courage and dedication to duty. Born on May 25, 1987, in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, he served in the esteemed 9 Para Special Forces unit, often referred to as the '9 Parachute Commando.' His defining moment came during a counter-terrorism operation in Pampore, Jammu, and Kashmir, in February 2016, where he demonstrated extraordinary bravery and skill while confronting terrorists who had entrenched themselves in a government building. Tragically, Captain Tushar Mahajan laid down his life during this operation, making the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.

Captain Tushar Mahajan's unwavering commitment to his duty and his unwavering bravery in the face of grave danger earned him numerous posthumous accolades. Among these honors was the prestigious Shaurya Chakra, one of India's highest peacetime gallantry awards. This renaming of the railway station stands as a lasting tribute to his heroic service.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh, who spearheaded the renaming ceremony, paid heartfelt tributes to Captain Tushar Mahajan. He underscored the significance of naming public places after the nation's soldiers and hailed this moment as a historic milestone in Udhampur's history.
