As the nation's capital suffers from the highest pollution level, the Delhi government announced on Monday that the odd-even scheme would return.

The Odd-Even vehicle system will be in place for one week, from November 13 to November 20, due to air pollution, according to Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Monday.

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, presided over a high-level meeting on Monday that included officials and members of the cabinet to talk about ways to reduce pollution.

Following the meeting, the Environment Minister of Delhi gave a press conference where he declared that the Odd-Even scheme would be implemented following Diwali.

Currently, the Odd-Even Scheme will be in place in Delhi for one week.

In addition, all schools will no longer hold in-person classes, except classes X and XII, according to the Delhi cabinet minister.

What is the odd-even system in Delhi?

The odd-even system, which was implemented by the Kejriwal-led government in 2016, only permits private vehicles to be driven on alternating days, based on the last digit on their license plate. According to this system, only vehicles whose license plate numbers end in an even digit are permitted to operate on even dates, while only those whose numbers end in an odd digit are permitted to do so.

Even dates (those with the numbers 0, 2, 4, 6, 8)

Odd dates are those that finish in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9.

When the scheme was being implemented in 2016, the Delhi government released a notification stating that the restrictions also applied to four-wheeler vehicles registered in other states. The program is often put into place to fight the extreme air pollution that the nation's capital faces.
