Giridhar Aramane, secretary of defense has confirmed that the defense industry in India will be growing in the future. While delivering a speech in Mysore, Karnataka, the defense secretary said  that it is the vision of Prime Minister Modi to have Indian manufacturers responsibly for defence production.

He elaborated that the Indian Government has no plans to shut any Defense Public Sector Undertaking. Instead, according to previous year record, the government of India gave a total of 95% orders to Indian Industries for defense production. These orders fueled employment in the country as well.

This year, the government has allocated 75 % of the orders to Indian Industries which will rise after financial budget. During the occasion, he also expressed his expectations saying that he hopes that Indian Companies are equipped with resources and will to take up such task and will fulfill the expectations of the Prime Minister.

Manufacturing sector powering the country

According to him, the PM believes that to generate employment, investing in the manufacturing industries is important. Its because the industry demands skilled labour, and India has an abundance of human resource.

The government of India is dedicated to increase spending in the defense industries sector as the government has allocated 25,000 crore rupees in the PSUs, startups and Private companies. In India, the research work in this sector is carried out by Defense Research and Development organization also commonly known as DRDO.

The  Ministry will also work with the the defense industries in USA for having more innovation in the sector. The government will be launching a scheme of Athithi  through which the government will provide higher grants for working in complex defense technology.

WHY does India want to invest in Defense?

Indian government has been continuously increasing spending in defense sector, increasing research budget and procuring domestically produced arms, ammunitions' and and other heavy machinery such as vessels for Navy. The government wants India to be Self- Reliant in the sector, so that the country does not have to depend on other countries for defense procurement and has to spend less.

Another factor is that our neighboring country, The Red Giant, has been almost self-sufficient in this sector, and India cannot stand powerfully until and unless India has the backup of its domestic industry.
