Thursday (local time),
French President Emmanuel Macron presented Prime Minister Narendra Modi with
the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour.

It is the highest
military or civilian order in France. This makes Modi the first Indian prime
minister to receive this honour.

PM Modi thanked French
President Macron on behalf of the Indian people for the honour. The award
ceremony was held at the Elysee Palace, during which Emmanuel Macron hosted
a private dinner for Prime Minister Modi.


The official
spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi, wrote about
this kind of act that shows how well India and France get along.

In the past, the Grand
Cross of the Legion of Honour has only been given to a small number of world
leaders and other important people. King Charles, who was the Prince of Wales
at the time, was one of them. So were former German Chancellor Angela Merkel,
former South African President Nelson Mandela, and former UN Secretary-General
Boutros Boutros-Ghali. 


This award from France is just one of many top foreign
awards and honours that have been given to PM Modi by different countries.


Earlier on Thursday
(local time), French President Emmanuel Macron had a private dinner with PM
Narendra Modi at his official home, the Elysee Palace, in Paris. The French
president, Emmanuel Macron, and the first lady, Brigitte Macron, met with PM
Modi.


On Thursday, the Prime Minister arrived in Paris for
a two-day business trip. At the airport, he was given an official welcome.
France’s Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, met him at the airport.
