In different parts of the nation, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) raised the cost of commercial LPG cylinders by Rs.100.

It should be noted that this is the second price increase in the past two months for commercial LPG cylinders. The increase will take effect on November 1.

Domestic LPG, which is used in homes for cooking, has remained constant in price while the price of commercial LPG cylinders has increased.

Commercial LPG cylinders are those that are used in non-domestic settings like transportation, restaurants, industries, poultry farms, and electricity generation. The cost of commercial LPG cylinders is set by state-run oil marketing companies.

After the most recent price change, Delhi residents now pay Rs.1,833 for a 19 kg LPG cylinder. The same cylinder costs Rs. 1,943 in Kolkata, Rs.1,785 in Mumbai, Rs.1,914.50 in Bengaluru, and Rs. 1,999.50 in Chennai, among other major cities.

While commercial LPG cylinder prices rose, the cost of domestic LPG, which is mainly used for cooking in households, kept unchanged.

It costs 929 rupees in Kolkata. Domestic LPG cylinders cost 902.5 rupees in Mumbai and 918.5 rupees in Chennai.

A 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder is still priced at 903 in Delhi.

On October 4, the Union cabinet authorized a hike in the cooking gas subsidy to roughly 96 million low-income households, increasing it from Rs. 200 to Rs.300 per cylinder. This decision came as assembly elections in five states were approaching, as well as national elections set for next year.

The government's decision to provide additional subsidies, with the emphasis being on rural women, comes just days after it approved expanding the PM Ujjwala Yojana scheme to include an additional 7.5 million women. This expansion is part of a larger effort to bring the total number of recipients to 103.5 million within the period of three years to come.

Earlier on August 29, the Union Cabinet reduced the price of a 14.2 kg LPG cooking gas cylinder by Rs.200 as a Raksha Bandhan gift for women. The decision comes as the government faces mounting criticism for rising inflation.
