India has outpaced the developed countries in terms of mobile speed: What led to this achievement?
According to Ookla, India has outperformed advanced economies like the UK and Japan in terms of mobile speed. With the introduction of 5G services, India's speed performance increased by 3.59 times.
Mobile download speeds have increased dramatically thanks to 5G, moving India up 72 spots to position 47 in the Speedtest Global Index, ahead of countries like Brazil, Japan, and the UK.

What led to the achievement of this fastest speed?
According to Ookla, mobile speed performance has improved by 3.59 times since the rollout of 5G, with median download speeds rising from 13.87 Mbps in September 2022 to 50.21 Mbps in August 2023.
India's median mobile download speeds in 2022 remained below 14 Mbps up until October 2022. However, the average mobile internet speeds have significantly increased since the introduction of India's first 5G networks.
In order to put the effects of 5G into perspective, India's median download speed has increased by 81% since the country's rollout in early October.
The combined 4G and 5G subscriber base in the nation will reach 990 Mn by 2024, the survey predicts.
