Pavan Davuluri: Microsoft has made a strategic move to consolidate its Windows and Surface teams once again, appointing Pavan Davuluri, an alumnus of IIT Madras, to spearhead development efforts on both fronts. This decision, as reported by Windows Central, follows a brief period of separation between the two units, during which Windows was placed under Microsoft's AI organization. The reintegration marks a return to the earlier structure within Microsoft's Engineering and Devices organization, led by Rajesh Jha.

Pavan Davuluri's Background

Pavan Davuluri, who previously supervised Microsoft's hardware ventures, has been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing Windows engineering in addition to his existing role. This reshuffle comes in the wake of the departure of former Windows and Surface chief, Panos Panay, last September.
Following Panay's departure, his duties were split between Davuluri and Mikhail Parakhin. Parakhin took charge of the Windows division while maintaining his position as CEO of Web and Advertising at Microsoft, where he oversees products like Bing, Edge, and Copilot.

Contributions and Focus

Davuluri has been instrumental in Microsoft's endeavors to enhance Windows for Arm-based devices. His dedication to innovation was highlighted in a recent announcement on X (formerly Twitter), where he introduced Surface AI PCs designed specifically for business purposes, featuring models like the Surface Pro 10 for Business and Surface Laptop 6 for Business. This move reflects Davuluri's dedication to enhancing user experiences and meeting the evolving demands of customers.

Organizational Restructuring

In parallel to these developments, Microsoft has appointed Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder of DeepMind, as the CEO of a newly established AI division. As a result, Mikhail Parakhin's team has been absorbed into this new division. This strategic realignment aligns with Microsoft's broader vision, as the company gears up to unveil next-generation AI features and Arm-based Surface hardware shortly.
