The G20 Summit in New Delhi came to a conclusion on Sunday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed the ceremonial gavel to Brazil, who will now preside over the group.

I want to congratulate Lula da Silva, the president of Brazil, and give the gavel of the presidency to him, Modi said.

Brazil will assume presidency in December

On December 1, Brazil will formally assume the presidency of the exclusive group. Speaking at the event, Lula da Silva welcomed Modi and commended India for working to raise issues that concern developing nations.

Social inclusion, the fight against hunger, the transition to clean energy, and sustainable development were also named by Lula da Silva as G20 priority.

Goals of the Brazilian G20 presidency

The first two goals of the Brazilian G20 presidency are the battle against hunger and social inclusion. Second, the three facets of sustainable development and energy transition... The third is the overhaul of international governing bodies. The motto of the Brazilian presidency, "building a fair world and a sustainable planet," includes all of these priorities.

Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty and the Global Mobilisation Against Climate Change will both be created as task forces.

At the time, Modi suggested that the G20 meet virtually at the end of November.

You have offered your opinions, made recommendations, and made several proposals over the past two days. We must carefully consider how we can speed up the proposals that have been made, Modi said, adding that it is our obligation.

PM Modi said , that "I suggest that we virtually have another G20 session around the end of November. The topics that were successfully resolved during this summit can be reviewed during that session. The specifics will be disclosed to everyone by our teams. He wished everyone there would attend the meeting."

With that, Modi proclaimed the G20 summit to be over.

As the G20 Summit entered its final day of discussions on Sunday, both Russia and the US hailed the summit statement that avoided blaming Moscow directly for the bloodshed in Ukraine.

The largest economies in the world agreed on a statement on Saturday in New Delhi that avoided criticising Russia for the conflict but emphasised the misery it had brought about and urged all states to refrain from using force to seize new territory.
