PM Modi Inaugurates India's First Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS): NaMo Bharat Unveiled
Uttar Pradesh, 20th October: In a momentous occasion for India's transportation infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the much-anticipated Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) Corridor's priority section at Sahibabad RapidX Station in Uttar Pradesh.
After the grand inauguration, PM Modi flagged off the "RapidX" train, now officially renamed "NaMo Bharat," marking the country's debut semi-high-speed regional rail service. Commencing passenger operations from tomorrow, 21st October, this remarkable feat introduces a new era of rapid transit.
The priority section, spanning 17 kilometers, bridges the gap between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot, within the broader 82.15 km RRTS corridor. Aiming for full operational status by June 2025, this cutting-edge train will achieve an impressive operational speed of 160 km per hour.
The "NaMo Bharat" offers a host of features, designed to meet the diverse commuting needs of passengers:
Women's Coach and Premium Coach:
One coach, when traveling from Delhi to Meerut, is reserved exclusively for women, offering a seating capacity for 72 passengers. Additional seating for women is allocated in other coaches. Furthermore, to encourage personal vehicle commuters to switch to RRTS, every "RapidX" train includes a premium coach. This spacious and comfortable coach boasts cushioned reclining seats, complete with charging points for mobile phones and laptops at each seat.
Premium Lounge
The premium coach grants access to a dedicated Premium Lounge located at the platform level. These lounges feature cushioned seating and vending machines, providing passengers with snacks and beverages.
Train Attendant
Each "RapidX" train is equipped with a dedicated Train Attendant. These attendants play a pivotal role in introducing passengers to the train's facilities and ensuring a safe and secure commute.
Efficient Entry/Exit
To alleviate station congestion and prevent traffic jams outside stations, entry and exit points have been thoughtfully designed on the sides, separate from the main carriageway. Dedicated passages on both sides of the road streamline passenger flow.
Diverse Ticketing Options
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) offers an array of ticketing options, including QR code-based paper tickets, digital QR tickets, "RapidX" Travel Cards, National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC), and Open Loop contactless cards.
Comfort and Amenities
"RapidX" trains feature ergonomically designed 2x2 transverse seating, generous standing space, luggage racks, CCTV cameras, laptop/mobile charging facilities, dynamic route maps, ambient lighting control, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning System (HVAC), and a host of other passenger-friendly amenities.
The inauguration of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor's priority section marks a significant leap forward in India's transportation landscape, promising efficient, sustainable, and comfortable commutes for millions.
