The state government had previously said in May of this year that the 7th Pay Commission Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees and retirees had been approved for an increase of 4%.

The state government of Tamil Nadu stated on Wednesday that from July 1 this year, teachers, retirees, and those working in the government will all receive a 4% boost in DA (Dearness Allowance).

There was an increase in the DA from 42% to 46%. This rise is in line with the established formula, which is based on the 7th Pay Commission's recommendations.

An official statement stated that the announcement is anticipated to help nearly 16 lakh teachers, pensioners, and family pensioners who work for the State government. To finance this, the State exchequer will have to spend an extra ₹2,546.16 crore.

Rise in Karnataka DA

The dearness allowance for state government employees would increase by 3.75 %, the Karnataka government announced on Saturday.

The government said in an order that it will be raising the dearness allowance from the current 35% to 38.75 %.

The government also declared that the salaries of judicial officers and lecturers on the UGC/AICTE/ICAR scale would increase by 4%.

The state government will spend an additional 1,109 crore as a result of the increase.

This move will help 48.67 lakh central government employees

The action follows last week's 4% increases in the Dearness Allowance for retirees and the Dearness Allowance for Central Government employees by the Union Government. The move will reportedly help 67.95 lakh retirees and 48.67 lakh central government employees.

The Railway Board further declared that, as of July 1, 2023, it has increased the dearness allowance for its workers from 42% to 46% of base salary.

The Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) is used to calculate the dearness allowance for retirees and employees.
