In many states, celebrations span multiple days — each associated with distinct traditions such as Naraka Chaturdashi, Laxmi Puja, and Bhai Dooj. This year, the festive week will bring a string of bank holidays across India, depending on regional customs and state observances.

Diwali 2025 Bank Holiday Schedule
According to the RBI’s official holiday list, several states will see bank closures on different days during Diwali week.
- October 20, 2025: Banks closed in Tripura, Gujarat, Mizoram, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh (UT), Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Assam, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, West Bengal, Delhi (NCT), Goa, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh for Diwali, Naraka Chaturdashi, and Kali Puja.
- October 21, 2025: Banks will remain closed in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim, Manipur, Chhattisgarh, Jammu, and Srinagar for Diwali Amavasya (Laxmi Puja), Deepawali, and Govardhan Puja.
- October 23, 2025: Gujarat, Sikkim, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Himachal Pradesh will observe holidays for Bhai Dooj, Chitragupt Jayanti, Laxmi Puja Bhratridwitiya, and Ningol Chakkouba.
Consecutive Holiday Streaks
Certain states will enjoy back-to-back holidays, giving citizens an extended festive break:
- Sikkim: Four-day break from Sunday to October 23.
- Chhattisgarh: Three-day break from Sunday to October 21.
- Maharashtra: Two-day holiday on October 21 and 22.
- Gujarat & Uttar Pradesh: Continuous holidays on October 22 and 23.
These consecutive holidays make it the perfect time for travel, family gatherings, and festive shopping.

- October 27, 2025: Chhath Puja (Evening Puja) – Banks closed in West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
- October 28, 2025: Chhath Puja (Morning Puja) – Banks closed in Bihar and Jharkhand.
- October 31, 2025: Gujarat observes a holiday for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti.
