Smoother Refresh Rate
Apple finally introduced a 120Hz refresh rate on the iPhone 17, which can drop to 1Hz in always-on mode for better efficiency. By contrast, the iPhone 16 only supported a 60Hz refresh rate, making the new model far smoother to use.
Brighter Screen Quality
The iPhone 17 display can hit 3000 nits peak brightness, compared to the iPhone 16’s 2000 nits outdoors and 1600 nits for HDR. This makes the new device far more usable in direct sunlight and richer for HDR content.
Major Camera Upgrade
The iPhone 17 introduces a dual 48MP camera setup — a main sensor and a new ultrawide lens, enabling 2x optical zoom and sharper macro photography. In comparison, the iPhone 16 carried a 48MP main + 12MP ultrawide setup, with a 12MP front camera.
Better Battery Performance
Apple claims the iPhone 17 battery lasts up to 8 hours longer than the iPhone 16. This is a significant jump, especially for heavy users who rely on long screen-on times.
Faster A19 Processor
Under the hood, the iPhone 17 is powered by the A19 chip, built on a 3nm process with a 6-core CPU and 5-core GPU. Apple says it’s 20% faster than the A18 chip in the iPhone 16, giving a big boost in performance and efficiency.
Stronger Durability
The iPhone 17 uses a new Ceramic Shield 2 for its display, making it three times more scratch-resistant than the older iPhone 16 glass protection. This ensures extra durability for everyday use.
