Vijaypat Singhania, the former Chairman of Raymond, passed away at the age of 87; his son, Gautam Singhania, shared this news via a social media post. His final rites are scheduled to take place this afternoon at the Chandanwadi Crematorium in Mumbai. While the relationship between Vijaypat Singhania and his son, Gautam Singhania, was undoubtedly cordial in recent times, there was a period when bitterness had crept into their bond. During that time, in an interview, Vijaypat had remarked that he had committed a grave error by handing over the reins of Raymond to his son.

Bitterness Creeps into the Relationship

In an interview, Vijaypat Singhania openly addressed the acrimony that had developed in the father-son relationship. He alleged that his son had ousted him from his home and noted that his son was now embroiled in a dispute with his own wife, Nawaz Modi. Vijaypat stated that if his daughter-in-law were to approach him for assistance, he would stand by her.

Empty-Handed Despite Giving It All

Vijaypat Singhania recounted that he had handed over his entire fortune and business empire to his son, yet received nothing in return. According to him, the promise to grant him an equity stake in the company was also left unfulfilled. He further added that he was subsequently forced to struggle just to sustain his daily life.

Situation Deteriorates Post-2015

It is reported that in 2015, Vijaypat Singhania completely handed over the leadership of the Raymond Group to his son. Since then, the discord between the two continued to escalate. A dispute over a specific apartment grew so intense that Vijaypat was compelled to leave his home and move into a rented accommodation.

A Lesson on Family and Wealth

Vijaypat Singhania also offered a valuable lesson drawn from this entire controversy. He advised that parents should not transfer their entire wealth to their children while they are still alive. According to them, such a decision could create difficulties in the future. This family rift, which surfaced within a major business house like Raymond, has now become a subject of public debate—highlighting the critical importance of balancing relationships with wealth.
