Stock Market Holiday Alert: NSE and BSE Closed on Dussehra and Diwali 2025
Stock Market Holiday Alert: The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will observe three trading holidays in October 2025. Both exchanges will remain closed on October 2 for Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra, and again on October 21–22 for Diwali Laxmi Pujan and Balipratipada.

October 2 Closure
On Thursday, October 2, trading across equities, equity derivatives, currency, securities lending, and electronic gold receipts will remain suspended. The markets will reopen on Friday, October 3, before the routine weekend break. Investors are advised to plan their transactions and settlements in advance to avoid disruptions.
Diwali Market Break
Later in the month, exchanges will pause again for Diwali celebrations. On Tuesday, October 21, markets will remain closed for Diwali Laxmi Pujan. However, investors can look forward to the special Muhurat Trading session in the evening, a symbolic tradition where many make fresh, auspicious investments.
Balipratipada Holiday
The festive break extends to Wednesday, October 22, when both NSE and BSE will remain shut for Balipratipada. Regular trading across all segments will resume on Thursday, October 23, following the two-day holiday.
Annual Trading Holidays
In total, the exchanges will observe 14 non-trading days in 2025, apart from routine Saturday and Sunday closures. The most recent break before October was for Ganesh Chaturthi on August 27, 2025.
