Crisis due to decline in TCS shares

TCS is the largest company in the Tata Group, and its share price has fallen by approximately 21% in 2025. This has reduced the group's market capitalization by about ₹3.10 lakh crore. Trent Ltd. has also delivered a blow; its share price was ₹7,116 at the end of 2024, and it has since fallen by approximately 42.5%. Trent's decline has reduced the group's market value by about ₹1.07 lakh crore.

Some companies, including Titan, have seen gains.

Tata Technologies Limited's shares have fallen by approximately 25 percent. Shares of Tata Chemicals Limited, Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited, Tata Power Company Limited, Oriental Hotels Limited, Nelco Limited, and Rallis India Limited have fallen by up to 38 percent, leading to a rapid decline in the group's market capitalization. However, shares of Titan Company Limited, Tata Consumer Products Limited, and Tata Steel Limited have seen a surge of 15 to 25 percent so far this year. This surge in these companies' shares has contributed approximately ₹1 lakh crore to the Tata Group's market capitalization.

Summary

There are several reasons for the decline in the Tata Group's market capitalization. In the case of TCS, the global economic slowdown, rising trade tensions in the US and Europe, and the weakening of the rupee against the dollar have contributed to a decrease in demand from foreign clients.  Meanwhile, Trent is suffering losses due to weakness in the retail sector.
