Climbing Mount Everest is one of the most important dream of climbers across the world. This dream of climbing the tallest mountain in the world does not come easy. The terrain and weather conditions makes it hard for climbers to reach the peak.

Decision making it Mandatory

In a new decision, the government of Nepal has made it mandatory to carry electronic chips while climbing the mountain. This electronic chip will be helpful in carrying out search and rescue operation on the tallest mountain peak. The Nepalese government is planning to formulate a rule to make it mandatory to carry the electronic chip while climbing starting from the coming spring.

Challenges to touch the peak of Everest

Since Everest is covered in dense snow throughout winters, the government allows climbers to take on this adventure for aa brief window. The climbing season will start in spring and will be open for only a narrow window.

The sky touching mountain's peak is at the height of 8,849 metres(29,032 feet. Known as Sagarmatha in Nepali, thousands of climbers take on the adventure of climbing this giant. People from all over the world are attracted to climb the mountain. From a large numbers of climbers who take on the adventure, only a small numbers are able to reach the peak. Some people get injured while climbing up or coming down leading to even losing their lives.

The difficult weather and terrain of Mount Everest makes it difficult for people to complete their trip safely. Since many of them are often trapped in avalanches, storms and snow storms, it gets difficult to carry out the search and rescue operation to save those.

According to the data provided by the Nepalese government, ever since the spring of 2023 until the summers in May 22, 12 climbers lost their lives. While four were Nepalese, one was an Indian and one from China. Ever since 1953, a total of 300 people are recorded to have lost their lives on Everest.

How will the chip Work?

Since the Everest base camp is situated at the height of 18,000 feet, the search and rescue operations carried near the peak/summit is a difficult task owing to the difficult weather. Rakesh Gurung, Director at the Department of Tourism said "All the climbers to Everest would be provided the electronic chip by the government after paying a certain amount. It will be fitted in the climber's jacket," said  Rakesh Gurung, Director at the Department of Tourism

As per the information provided by Rakesh Gurung, the cos of one chip will be around USD 10 to USD 15. This chip will be fitted to the jackets of the climbers. This electronic chip will facilitate the rescue operation making the expedition safer.
