On Friday night, Kolkata Airport declared a full emergency after an IndiGo flight bound for Bengaluru experienced an engine failure mid-air. The plane landed safely, and all 173 passengers and crew members were unharmed. Initial reports suggested that one of the engines caught fire, but officials did not confirm this.

Details of the Incident

According to passenger Nilanjan Das, flames were seen coming from one of the plane’s engines shortly after take-off. The pilot reported the engine failure just minutes after departure, leading to an emergency declaration at 10:39 pm. The runway was quickly inspected and cleared, allowing the plane to land safely on a single engine at 11:05 pm.

An airport official confirmed, “An engine failure is a serious emergency, but thankfully, the flight landed safely.”
