From balancing mass cinema with substantial storytelling, here’s looking at actors who are also producers, controlling the business and creative aspects of their films.
Shah Rukh Khan
In addition to standing true to the moniker of being King Khan, Shah Rukh Khan also owns the production company, Red Chillies Entertainment. Through the production house, he has delivered some of Bollywood’s biggest hits, including Darlings, Jawan, Chennai Express, Main Hoon Na, and more. The banner also features a top-notch VFX division.
Salman Khan
Salman Khan started his own production company, SKF (Salman Khan Films), in 2014. His upcoming film, Maatrubhumi, is also being backed by SKF. Other films introduced by SKF include Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Race 3, Loveyatri and Notebook.
Sharad Kelkar
Beyond being one of the most dependable performers, Sharad Kelkar is also a producer, backing compelling projects through his production banner, SSK Entertainment. He has backed films, including the action-drama 'Raanti', adventure drama 'Idak: The Goat' and the Marathi epic 'Har Har Mahadev'. Recently, Sharad Kelkar marked a significant milestone by joining forces with producer Prateek Sharma to collectively collaborate for engaging and impactful films and series.
Aamir Khan
Aamir Khan started his own production company, Aamir Khan Productions, in 1999. It was kickstarted with the purpose of backing the iconic 'Lagaan' after the script was not purchased by any studio. Today, the actor has produced several memorable films, including Taare Zameen Par, Lapataa Ladies and more.
Riteish Deshmukh
In 2013, Riteish Deshmukh launched his own production house, Mumbai Film Company, with the production of the Marathi film Balak Palak, followed by Yellow and Faster Fene. Now, alongwith his wife Genelia Deshmukh, Mumbai Film Company is coming up with Raja Shivaji, a historical epic mounted on a global scale. The film releases in theatres on May 1, 2026.
