Aamir Khan to Play Dadasaheb Phalke in Rajkumar Hirani’s Next Biopic
Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani are coming together for a new film based on the life of Dadasaheb Phalke, known as the father of Indian cinema. Despite his huge contribution, no Hindi film has yet shown his inspiring story on the big screen.

The Story of Indian Cinema’s Pioneer
Set in the time of India’s freedom struggle, the film will highlight how Dadasaheb Phalke started from nothing and built the foundation of Indian cinema, which is now the biggest film industry in the world.
Filming Begins in October 2025
The shooting for the film is expected to begin in October 2025. Aamir Khan will start preparing for his role after his next film, Sitare Zameen Par, hits the theatres. To recreate the old era, top VFX studios from Los Angeles have already worked on AI-based visual designs for the film.
Script in the Making for 4 Years
This film has been in development for the past four years. The script is being written by Rajkumar Hirani, Abhijat Joshi, Hindukush Bhardwaj, and Avishkar Bhardwaj.
Support from Dadasaheb Phalke ’s Grandson
Chandrashekhar Shrikrishna Pusalkar, Dadasaheb Phalke’s grandson, has fully supported the project. He has also shared several personal stories and unknown facts about his grandfather’s life, which will be part of the movie.

Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani have given iconic films like 3 Idiots and PK. This new film promises to be another milestone, bringing the forgotten story of Dadasaheb Phalke to the big screen.
