Abhishek Banerjee Wins Big! Bags Best Actor (OTT) Award for the Critically Acclaimed ‘Stolen’
Abhishek Banerjee wins Best Actor (OTT) for ‘Stolen’, which also bags Best Film, Director and Writer awards.
It’s a win for Abhishek Banerjee as the actor received the honour of the prestigious Best Actor (OTT) Award for the critically acclaimed thriller, Stolen, headlined by Banerjee, who also played the role as its executive producer. In addition to Banerjee's win for Stolen, the film grabbed 3 major awards, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Writer. In his recent post, he celebrated the win and stated that it will “help many new filmmakers and producers to take that first step towards making a film they are convinced about.”
For Banerjee, being an executive producer for Stolen was a conscious attempt to back mid-budget cinema. Riding on the exploration of class, conflict, caste and social issues, Stolen found a wider audience. Contributing to the community has been Banerjee’s central approach, and that’s exactly what he has kept in mind while starting his casting company. “We need more newcomers - writers, directors, actors, cinematographers - so that as an industry, we can grow and power doesn't lie with only a few,” the actor had stated earlier.
The actor believes that Stolen has been fulfilling on a creative level. “A creative person thrives on challenge, when there is a curiosity attached to any kind of project, when you don't know how it's going to shape up,” he mentions.
Directed by Karan Tejpal, Stolen received critical acclaim following its premiere at the 80th International Film Festival in 2023. The film won several awards at international film festivals, including Best Director, Best Cinematographer and Best Actress at the Beijing International Film Festival. It also won the Best Film and Best Director Award at the Skip City International D-Cinema Festival in Japan and received a special mention at the Zurich Film Festival.
