Actress Mamitha Baiju Reveals Why She’s Doing More Tamil Films Lately
Even though Mamitha Baiju has been appearing more frequently in Tamil films, her emotional connection remains with Malayalam cinema. “I’m not a Tamil girl; my heart belongs to Malayalam,” she admitted during the promotions of Dude. While she’s currently busier in Tamil films, she emphasized that her dream is to do more Malayalam projects, where her artistic roots lie.
Reason Behind More Tamil Films
Mamitha shared that her growing presence in Tamil cinema was not a planned move but a result of the roles she was offered. “I got more opportunities in Tamil around that time — the characters were stronger and more diverse,” she revealed. “I took up those films simply because the roles were good.” Her choices show her commitment to exploring different characters while staying true to her creative instincts.
Working on Tamil Sets
Mamitha also spoke about her experience working in Tamil cinema and how welcoming the environment has been. “I have never faced any discrimination on Tamil sets,” she said. The only noticeable difference? The food! “Every morning, we have idli, dosa, and other Tamil dishes. I love Tamil food,” she added with a smile.
Language Barriers and Funny Moments
Discussing language challenges, Mamitha said learning Tamil has been an enriching part of her journey. “Most of my crew speaks Tamil — my makeup artist Mythra, hairstylist Hema — only my assistant and I talk in Malayalam. Sometimes we catch ourselves speaking Tamil and laugh about it!” she recalled. Over time, she has learned to read and write Tamil, which she considers a proud achievement.
Bond with Pradeep Ranganathan
Talking about her Dude co-star, Mamitha shared that working with Pradeep Ranganathan felt effortless and friendly. “He’s a great co-actor and very fun to work with. I learned a lot from him,” she said. Dude, her next Tamil release after Rebel, is expected to hit theatres this Diwali, and early reviews are already positive — marking another milestone in her growing career.
