Meaningful Ink: “Stay Gold”

Jolie explained that she and Vivienne got the tattoo “Stay Gold” during their time on the production. She expressed how significant the phrase is to both of them: “It means so much to us separately and together.” Jolie first showcased the tattoo at the opening night of The Outsiders back in April. The phrase is a well-known quote from S.E. Hinton’s book and Francis Ford Coppola’s film adaptation, symbolizing youth and beauty.

Family Tradition of Tattoos

In addition to the matching tattoo with Vivienne, Jolie mentioned that she also shares a bird tattoo with some of her other children, although she did not specify which ones. The actress is a mother to six kids: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox.

Outsiders and Its Impact

Jolie served as a producer on The Outsiders, while Vivienne worked as a producer's assistant. The musical, directed by Danya Taymor, was nominated for 12 Tony Awards, winning four, including Best New Musical. Jolie's role as a producer marked her first Tony Award win.

Jolie shared how Vivienne’s passion for theater inspired her to produce the Broadway adaptation after attending several performances at the La Jolla Playhouse. Jolie emphasized how theater resonates with teenagers, and she appreciated the insights it provided into Vivienne’s feelings and experiences.

Lessons Learned from Motherhood

In her interview, Jolie reflected on the profound lessons her children have taught her. She noted, “The moment you become a parent you are never first again. Your life is for another. It’s a beautiful feeling.” This sentiment highlights the deep connection and love Jolie shares with her family.
