He revealed that writer Sudip Sharma agreed to write Bandar only under one condition — that he would have complete creative freedom in shaping the narrative. Kashyap respected this and gave Sharma full control, which eventually helped the film achieve its distinctive voice.

Anurag Kashyap Addressing MeToo Speculations
After its TIFF premiere, Bandar sparked debates online, with some calling it “anti-MeToo.” Responding to the chatter, Anurag clarified, “It has nothing to do with MeToo. The film deals with a false rape accusation, but MeToo is about misuse of power and authority. Bandar focuses on truth, justice, and perception — not power dynamics.” His clarification put to rest the circulating misconceptions.
Bobby Deol’s Intense Role
Bandar features Bobby Deol as Samar, a fading television star who faces a shocking rape accusation from his ex-girlfriend, Gayatri, played by Saba Azad. Sanya Malhotra also plays a key role. The story follows Samar’s fall from fame to infamy as he navigates a justice system seemingly set against him. The narrative explores fame, morality, and the blurred lines of justice in today’s world.
Backed by Nikhil Dwivedi
The film is produced by Nikhil Dwivedi, known for hits like Veere Di Wedding and CTRL. Dwivedi’s next big project includes the much-awaited Naagin starring Shraddha Kapoor. With Bandar, he continues his streak of backing bold, conversation-driven cinema. The movie’s official release date is yet to be revealed.
Anurag Kashyap’s Work front
Kashyap recently directed Nishaanchi, starring Aaishvary Thackeray in a double role alongside Vedika Pinto and Kumud Mishra. Produced under Jar Pictures and Flip Films, Nishaanchi has been praised for its bold storytelling — a signature of Anurag’s filmmaking style. With Bandar, the filmmaker once again proves his knack for tackling layered and socially charged subjects.
