Why Did Anurag Kashyap Leave Mumbai?
During an interview with The Hindu, Kashyap confirmed his relocation, saying, "I want to stay away from film people. The industry has become too toxic. Everyone is chasing unrealistic targets, trying to make the next ₹500 or ₹800 crore film. The creative atmosphere is gone." He further mentioned that he had already paid rent for his new home, though he did not disclose the exact location.
Tough Goodbye to Mumbai
Having spent decades in Mumbai, Kashyap’s departure wasn’t easy. The city had been both a place of struggle and success for him. However, he feels that the environment has changed, making it difficult to work creatively. "A city is not just its structures but also its people. Here, people pull you down," he said, explaining his decision.

Reports suggest that Kashyap has relocated to Bengaluru, known as India’s IT hub. The director hinted that several other filmmakers had already left Mumbai, moving to places like Dubai, Portugal, London, Germany, and the U.S. Seeking better mental and emotional well-being, Kashyap now plans to focus on his upcoming projects, including a Malayalam-Hindi film and a Tamil film.
