Arjun Kapoor on the Initial Hate Against Alia Bhatt
In an interview with Mashable India, Arjun revealed the negativity surrounding Alia’s casting. He said, “There was absolute disdain and hatred against Alia on social media when she signed 2 States. It was because they said she didn’t look like a South Indian, and her previous film, Student Of The Year, hadn’t given her that kind of recognition that was needed to play that role. The book was already very popular, and people had preconceived notions about the character.”
Why Alia Was Chosen for the Role
Arjun also shared that multiple female actors were considered for the role of Ananya, but Alia’s talent and hard work ultimately secured her the part.
“There were other big names in contention who were visually relevant for the role. But Alia just kept her head down and worked. She auditioned, did a photoshoot, and that’s when the team decided she was the right choice. She never complained about anything on set and proved herself through her performance,” Arjun added.
A Turning Point in Alia Bhatt ’s Career

“The world’s opinion of Alia Bhatt changed completely in just one Friday,” Arjun said, referring to Highway's release.
From Criticism to Success
Despite initial doubts, Alia’s portrayal of Ananya in 2 States was widely appreciated, solidifying her position in Bollywood. Her journey from receiving hate to winning hearts showcases her dedication and evolution as an actor.
