Assam Govt to Donate GST Share from Zubeen Garg’s Roi Roi Binale to His Foundation
In a significant decision, the Assam cabinet has decided to transfer the state’s share of Goods and Services Tax (GST) collected from Zubeen Garg’s upcoming film Roi Roi Binale to his Kalaguru Artiste Foundation. The foundation, established by Garg, focuses on helping artists in medical emergencies, offering educational support to students, and aiding flood relief efforts across Assam.

Zubeen Garg’s Legacy Lives On
The decision comes just weeks after the shocking demise of 52-year-old Zubeen Garg, who passed away in Singapore last month. The beloved singer, composer, actor, and filmmaker left an indelible mark on Assamese culture. His final film Roi Roi Binale, where he plays a blind singer, is set to release on October 31.
Government’s Emotional Gesture
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Centre collects 18% GST on tickets priced above ₹100 and 5% on tickets priced below Rs.100. The state’s share—half of that collected—will now go directly to Zubeen’s foundation, following discussions with his wife, Garrima Garg.
“This move will help carry forward the foundation’s work and also the ideals with which Garg had started it,” Sarma said.
Massive Release Across India
Roi Roi Binale will be released in over 90 screens in Assam and around 70 theatres across cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. The excitement around the release is historic, with theatres preparing for round-the-clock screenings—from 6 am to midnight. Many single-screen theatres that were shut for years have reopened especially for this release.
Record-Breaking Advance Bookings
Early trends on BookMyShow show that tickets for the first three to four days are nearly sold out, promising a record-breaking opening for an Assamese film. The buzz reflects not just anticipation for the movie but also the deep love and respect fans continue to hold for Zubeen Garg.
A Legacy of Art and Compassion
Through this decision, the Assam government ensures that Garg’s final cinematic journey becomes a continuing source of support for the artistic community he cherished. His music, art, and compassion will live on—not just through Roi Roi Binale but through every life touched by his foundation.
