Can Saiyaara Survive the Coolie and War 2 Wave?
Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara has taken the box office by storm, becoming a rare romantic blockbuster in a market where big-ticket Hindi films often underperform. Led by debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, the film managed to captivate audiences and dominate collections for weeks. However, the arrival of Rajinikanth’s Coolie and Hrithik Roshan–Jr NTR’s War 2 is set to shake things up this festive weekend.

Experts Predict Fourth Spot
Trade expert Komal Nahta believes Saiyaara’s dream run is already on the decline. “With Coolie and War 2 now in theatres, Saiyaara will likely be the fourth choice for moviegoers. Let’s not forget Mahavatar Narsimha is still performing strongly,” he told NDTV. Taran Adarsh echoed this view, noting that while Saiyaara will continue to play, the new big releases will dominate the screens.
The Mahavatar Narsimha Impact
Released just a week after Saiyaara, Ashwin Kumar’s animated mythological action drama Mahavatar Narsimha has been a surprise hit. Its week-one haul reached Rs.44.75 crore (Rs.32.45 crore from Hindi alone), growing to Rs.73.4 crore in week two. By its third Monday, the film had earned Rs.174.9 crore. This surge has already eaten into Saiyaara’s collections, which dropped sharply after its stellar Rs.172 crore opening week.
Saiyaara’s Record-Breaking Run
Despite the slowdown, Saiyaara has made history as the highest-grossing romantic film in Hindi cinema, earning Rs.321.35 crore domestically and over Rs.500 crore worldwide in just 26 days. The film’s promotional push, perfect release timing, and the chemistry between its leads created an unstoppable wave. Even big names like Ajay Devgn (Son of Sardaar 2) and Sidharth Malhotra (Param Sundari) rescheduled releases to avoid competing with it.
Coolie and War 2 Hype
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie is Rajinikanth’s 171st film, featuring Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Sathyaraj, with a cameo by Aamir Khan. Meanwhile, War 2 pairs Hrithik Roshan with Jr NTR for the first time, alongside Kiara Advani, in a high-octane action sequel directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced under YRF’s spy universe banner.
The Big Question
With two heavyweight releases vying for audience attention, can Saiyaara maintain its momentum, or will it be swept aside by the Independence Day action double bill? As trade circles suggest, the next few days will decide whether Saiyaara’s reign continues or its fairy-tale run reaches its final chapter.
