The upcoming social drama series Chiraiya is set to premiere on JioHotstar on March 20, according to the makers. The six episode series stars Divya Dutta and Sanjay Mishra in the lead roles. The show is produced by SVF Entertainment and directed by Shashant Shah. The makers said the series attempts to spark conversations on sensitive social issues that often remain unspoken within families.

Storyline of Chiraiya

The story revolves around Kamlesh, played by Divya Dutta. Kamlesh is portrayed as the ideal daughter in law in a joint family, and her life appears normal on the surface.

Her life changes when she discovers that her sister in law Pooja is facing sexual abuse within her marriage. The revelation puts Kamlesh in a difficult position. She must decide whether to remain silent to protect family honour or raise her voice against the injustice.

The series highlights how silence within families can sometimes allow wrongdoing to continue.

Divya Dutta on her role

Speaking about the character, Divya Dutta said Kamlesh slowly gathers the courage to question long standing social norms and beliefs.

According to the actor, the character is closely connected to her family but faces a moral dilemma after the truth comes out. Dutta said Kamlesh’s journey is about awareness and courage rather than rebellion, as she chooses to stand against silence and fear.

Sanjay Mishra on the series

Sanjay Mishra said the strength of the series lies in its realistic portrayal of human behaviour.

According to him, the characters are not shown as entirely good or bad but as individuals shaped by their values, beliefs and social pressures. Mishra added that the story also reflects how silence within families can often become the biggest reason for injustice to continue.

Star cast

Apart from Divya Dutta and Sanjay Mishra, the series also features Siddharth Shaw, Prasanna Bisht, Faisal Rashid, Tinnu Anand, Sarita Joshi and Anjum Saxena in key roles.

The makers said the series aims to go beyond entertainment and encourage viewers to reflect on sensitive issues that are often not discussed openly within households.
