Chris Columbus, the director behind the first two Harry Potter films, has shared his excitement about the upcoming HBO TV reboot of the beloved franchise. What Did Chris Columbus Say?

Columbus expressed his enthusiasm in an interview with PEOPLE, stating, "I think it's a spectacular idea because there's a certain restriction when you're making a film. Our film was two hours and 40 minutes, and the second one was almost as long."

He added that the series’ eight hour-long episodes for the first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, would allow for much greater storytelling. "The fact that they have the leisure of multiple episodes for each book, I think that's fantastic. You can include all the great scenes we didn’t have the opportunity to put in the films."

Casting Rumors and Updates

Columbus also commented on the widely speculated casting of Cillian Murphy as Voldemort. “Cillian is one of my favorite actors, so that would be amazing,” he said.

The series is still finalizing its all-star cast, with nationwide auditions in the UK bringing in over 30,000 hopefuls for the roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. The show promises to introduce newcomers in these iconic roles, staying true to the spirit of Rowling’s magical world.

Why Fans Are Excited

The Harry Potter TV reboot is being helmed by Francesca Gardiner as the writer and Mark Mylod as the director. With the promise of deeper character development and previously omitted scenes, the series aims to offer a fresh perspective on Rowling's novels, which have already captured the hearts of millions worldwide.

The series is expected to begin production soon, with casting announcements anticipated in the near future.
