Deva Box Office Collection Day

Deva Box Office Collection Day 1: Shahid Kapoor's latest film Deva hit the theatres on Friday, but the action thriller failed to make a strong impact on its opening day. Directed by Malayalam filmmaker Rosshan Andrrews, the film is said to be a remake of the 2013 Malayalam movie Mumbai Police, albeit with a different climax.

Deva Box Office Collection Day 1

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Deva earned Rs. 5 crore on its first day. This is Rs. 1.7 crore lower than the opening day collection of Shahid Kapoor’s previous film Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (Rs. 6.7 crore).

The film had a 10.24% overall occupancy across 5,142 shows in India. The highest turnout was for the night shows, while Mumbai and the NCR had the maximum screenings—899 in Mumbai and 1,336 in the NCR.

How Does Deva Compare to Shahid’s Previous Films?

Shahid Kapoor’s biggest solo hit, Kabir Singh (2019), had a massive opening of Rs. 20.21 crore and went on to collect Rs. 280 crore at the box office.

His highest-grossing theatrical release remains Padmaavat (Rs. 300 crore), which also starred Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone.

His last big-screen release, Jersey (2022), opened with Rs. 3.2 crore and had a lifetime collection of Rs. 30.75 crore worldwide, making it a box office flop. In 2023, he starred in the OTT film Bloody Daddy on Netflix.

Are Remakes Losing Their Charm?

Over the years, Bollywood remakes have struggled at the box office. Kabir Singh, which was a remake of Arjun Reddy, worked well in 2019, but recent remakes have failed to attract audiences. Even Varun Dhawan’s Baby John, which released last month, opened better than Deva but couldn’t sustain its momentum, crashing within the first week.

With Deva receiving a lukewarm response on its opening day, it remains to be seen whether the film can pick up momentum over the weekend or follow the fate of other recent remakes.
