Dhurandhar 2 Movie Review: The moment you step into the theater for ‘Dhurandhar 2’, you’ll find yourself recalling all the characters, plot twists, dialogues, and songs from the story. Aditya Dhar’s filmmaking in ‘Dhurandhar’ left such a lasting impression that, for the past three months, our minds have been itching to see the conclusion of Hamza’s story. Aditya understands this anticipation; he knows his audience and places his trust in them. The instant 'Dhurandhar 2' begins, you are transported right back into the very same narrative that, back in December, kept audiences glued to their seats for three and a half hours. And now, let’s tell you exactly how the substance of 'Dhurandhar 2'turned out.

Ranveer Creates a Storm

First and foremost, 'Dhurandhar 2'addresses the grievances of those who were waiting for a massive explosive performance from Ranveer Singh in the first film—a moment that, in the original, only materialized right at the very end. The story opens with Jaskeerat Singh Rangi. To witness the events in his life that transformed him into a killing machine, you’ll need to steel your nerves. The dominant emotion driving Jaskeerat’s story is vengeance. Watching Ranveer’s energy in this sequence makes it evident just how much hard work he has poured into the role. Ranveer proves his mettle not only in channeling the sheer physical force required for such violence but also in conveying the emotional toll that accompanies it.

The drug crisis in Punjab, the funding of separatist movements, the influx of counterfeit currency into the country via the Nepal-UP corridor—all these elements combine to make 'Dhurandhar 2'’s narrative thoroughly engaging. These are the very headlines you’ve been reading in newspapers; however, the way the film weaves them together—linking them to terrorism brewing on Pakistani soil—creates a compelling and robust story on screen. The screenplay presents you with a narrative that you might have once imagined—or perhaps heard about—while observing real-world events.

Yet, Dhurandhar 2 breathes life into that fiction, grounding it with powerful and striking visuals. A scene depicting a former leader being shot at right in front of news cameras. Sequences portraying demonetization as a decision that thwarted a conspiracy hatched by Pakistani terrorists. The depiction of a dreaded gangster—who vanished from India years ago—resurfacing in Pakistan. For once, 'Dhurandhar 2' treats all these incidents—hitherto regarded merely as wild conspiracy theories—as absolute truths.

The more the film attempts to blend real-life events with fiction, the less engaging it becomes. However, one thing is certain: every single incident depicted in this film is bound to undergo intense scrutiny and dissection across both social and mainstream media.

Yet, in doing so, 'Dhurandhar 2' presents a second half that is significantly longer than the first. The pacing in this section falters in a few places. Nevertheless, the intrigue regarding what new surprises Aditya Dhar will pull out of his bag never fades. In the second half, Ranveer Singh delivers exactly the kind of performance you likely anticipated back when you first watched the teaser for the original film. He has completely surrendered himself to Dhar’s creative vision.

Sanjay Dutt’s character, SP Chaudhary, has become even more formidable in 'Dhurandhar 2' than he was before. In fact, for Sanjay Dutt, 'Dhurandhar 2' feels like the film that 'KGF 2' seemed poised to be for him. This time around, Arjun Rampal’s Major Iqbal steps into the role of the primary antagonist.

Dhurandhar 2 steers the narrative of the first film precisely in the direction it was always expected to take. However, in doing so, it makes no compromises regarding its stylistic flair, narrative structure, or action sequences. The action, violence, and profanity are double what they were in the first film—and all three elements pack a much harder punch this time around. That said, the film's excessive runtime remains a minor issue. Furthermore, the cameos—despite the immense excitement surrounding them—do not prove to be as impactful as anticipated.

There is a post-credits scene, so be sure to stay seated until the very end. Though, whether or not you will be pleased with that scene is an entirely different matter!

Summary

All in all, ‘Dhurandhar 2’ is a powerful and solid sequel—one that faces the test of whether or not it constitutes propaganda even more intensely than its predecessor. They won't be. For viewers who watch it merely as a standalone film, it is certainly a bit long.
