Do Patti Review: Netflix’s Do Patti tackles a significant theme of domestic abuse through the story of two sisters. Directed by Shashanka Chaturvedi, the film stars Kriti Sanon as twins Saumya and Shailee, and Kajol as Vidya Jyoti, a no-nonsense cop-lawyer. However, the impactful theme is somewhat overshadowed by predictable storytelling and exaggerated performances.

Storyline and Themes

The film opens with a shocking event, setting a thrilling pace. Do Patti jumps between the past and present, highlighting Saumya and Shailee’s strained relationship and troubled past. Saumya’s silent suffering in an abusive marriage and her refusal to act against her husband, Dhruv (Shaheer Sheikh), forms the crux of the story. While Vidya Jyoti takes an active role in pursuing justice, even in the absence of a formal complaint, Shailee’s approach to her sister’s situation reflects how society often pushes victims to “save” a marriage.

Strong Messages but Forced Performances

The film effectively raises questions about domestic abuse, the victim’s mindset, and the responsibilities of those who witness such suffering. However, the delivery falters due to Kajol and Kriti’s visibly exaggerated performances. Kriti’s portrayal of Shailee feels like a forced version of Deepika Padukone’s Veronica in Cocktail, while Kajol’s Vidya Jyoti lacks subtlety, often coming across as overly intense. This isn’t the case for Shaheer Sheikh, who convincingly embodies Dhruv, a privileged man with a flawed character.

Final Thoughts

Do Patti brings forward a relevant issue, raising awareness about domestic abuse with a straightforward message. Despite the important theme, the film feels weighed down by a predictable plot and overdone acting, which takes away from its emotional impact.
