Legendary Folk Singer Sharda Sinha passes away at 72; Nation Mourns
Renowned folk singer Sharda Sinha, celebrated for her soulful contributions to Bhojpuri and Maithili music, passed away at 72 after a prolonged battle with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer. The Padma Bhushan awardee had been undergoing treatment at AIIMS New Delhi since October 27.
Leaders Pay Heartfelt Tributes
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow, saying, “Her Maithili and Bhojpuri songs will echo in the hearts of millions for generations.”
President Droupadi Murmu also honored Sinha, calling her the "Bihar Kokila" and highlighting her contribution to the Chhath Puja tradition.
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi praised her unique voice, while Delhi’s Lt. Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena called her the "musical voice of Chhath."

Sharda Sinha, active since the 1970s, made indelible contributions to Indian folk music, especially during the Chhath Puja season.
