Renowned bassist Mohini Dey has responded to rumours about her alleged relationship with legendary musician AR Rahman. Sharing a heartfelt video on Instagram, Mohini called these claims baseless and clarified that Rahman is like a father figure to her.

She explained her professional relationship with Rahman, having worked as his bassist for 8.5 years before moving to the United States five years ago. Over the years, Mohini has collaborated with numerous pop artists in the U.S.
Mohini Urges Kindness and Respect for Privacy
In her video, Mohini highlighted how misinformation can deeply hurt individuals. She clarified that Rahman is younger than her father and that she shares the same age group as Rahman’s daughters.
Captioning her video, Mohini wrote about her admiration for Rahman and her gratitude for the opportunities he provided. She also shared how her father, Ranjit Barot, Louiz Banks, and Rahman played key roles in her musical journey.
A R Rahman ’s Family Also Denies Allegations
The rumours began after AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu announced their separation after 29 years of marriage. Around the same time, Mohini shared news of her divorce from Mark Hartsuch, fueling unfounded gossip.
Rahman’s children and his ex-wife strongly condemned these rumours, calling them false. Rahman even warned of legal action against those spreading misinformation.
Mohini Dey 's Plea for Sensitivity
Concluding her message, Mohini urged the media and public to respect personal boundaries and refrain from spreading unverified news. “I don’t owe anyone an explanation, but I request that this stops,” she said.
