The Meaning of Vanvaas to Nana
When asked what Vanvaas (exile) signifies to him, Nana reflected, “For me, exile is when those who are close to me forget my existence. If they distance themselves, it feels like exile. Life becomes meaningless then.”
On His Bond with His Father
The film, which explores the complex dynamics between a father and son, made Nana reminisce about his relationship with his own father. He said, “My relationship with my father was very special. Even today, I talk to his photograph. I was just 28 years old when he passed away at 69. His loss has left a void that cannot be filled. I often regret that I didn’t have money to buy his medicines then. Now I have money, but it holds no value for him.”
He urged people to spend time with their parents, saying, “Parents consider the time spent with their children as a festival. Go to them, stay with them. Once they are gone, there’s no point in grieving.”
A Message of Love and Regret
Nana’s reflections serve as a poignant reminder to cherish our loved ones while they are still with us. He added, “I did whatever I could for my mother, who lived till the age of 99. But for my father, I couldn’t do enough. That pain still lingers. For me, parents are the true gods—I don’t go to temples because I believe there is no greater God than them.”
