Harsh Goenka Slams Media's Role in 2020
Following the CBI’s closure report, many prominent figures criticized the sensational media coverage Rhea Chakraborty faced in 2020. Businessman Harsh Goenka took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his disapproval. He accused Indian TV media of conducting a baseless trial against Rhea, stating, “Nice job, Indian TV media. You hounded Rhea Chakraborty like a witch in a medieval trial—no evidence, no shame, just TRPs. Who needs facts when you have flashing graphics and angry panels? For me, journalism died that day.”

How Rhea Was Dragged into the Case
On August 6, 2020, the CBI registered an FIR against Rhea Chakraborty, her parents, brother, and two others. The allegations included abetment of suicide, cheating, theft, wrongful restraint, and criminal breach of trust. This was based on a complaint by Sushant’s father, K.K. Singh, to the Patna police, accusing Rhea and her family of pushing the actor to take his own life.
Legal Battles and Supreme Court Petition
Initially, the Mumbai police classified Rajput’s death as an accidental case. However, a month later, his father filed an FIR in Patna. This led Rhea to approach the Supreme Court, requesting the case be transferred to Mumbai. Meanwhile, the Bihar government intervened and handed over the investigation to the CBI.
Final Verdict: Media Under Scrutiny
With the CBI now confirming Sushant’s death as a suicide, questions arise about the role of media sensationalism. Harsh Goenka and many others believe that Rhea was unfairly targeted without solid evidence, raising concerns over how high-profile cases are handled in India’s news landscape.
