OG 'Oye Oye' Star Sonam Khan Suggests Ranbir & Janhvi for Tirchi Topiwale Remake
Sonam Khan, the actress who became a household name after the release of the iconic song Tirchi Topiwale in 1989, is eager to see the track recreated for today’s audience. The original, from the hit film Tridev, featured Sonam alongside Naseeruddin Shah and remains a classic. Known for her roles in films like Vijay, Mitti Aur Sona, Aakhri Ghulam, Ajooba, Vishwatma, Police Aur Mujrim, and Insaniyat Ke Devta, Sonam recently shared her thoughts about the possibility of a remake of the chartbuster.

In an exclusive conversation with News18, Sonam expressed her excitement, stating that if the song were to be recreated, it should feature Ranbir Kapoor and Janhvi Kapoor.
"I think a Tirchi Topiwale remake would be perfect with Ranbir Kapoor and Janhvi Kapoor. Tridev and Chandni were released in the same year. Both were super duper hits! So recreating the magic of Rishi Kapoor ji and Sridevi ji with their children would be truly special,” Sonam said.
The actress also showered praise on the two young stars. “Ranbir Kapoor, in my view, is the most talented actor in India today. As for Janhvi, she’s not only beautiful and talented but also brings a rare, unique sex appeal—she has a raw innocence yet an undeniably provocative charm. Just like Sridevi ma’am," she explained.
Sonam added, “The chemistry between Ranbir and Janhvi would strike a deep chord, especially since I had the privilege of working with both their legendary parents, Sridevi ji and Rishi Kapoor ji. This is one pair I’d love to see together on screen.”
Sonam made her Bollywood debut in 1987 with Samrat and quickly rose to fame. In 1988, she starred alongside Rishi Kapoor in Yash Chopra’s Vijay, solidifying her position in the industry. However, it was her bold and captivating performance in Tridev that made her a sensation. The song Tirchi Topiwale became a cultural phenomenon, propelling Sonam to the peak of her career.
After years away from the limelight, Sonam made her first public appearance in Mumbai in 2023, marking her return to India. Now, she is eager to reconnect with the industry and explore new opportunities.
With her enduring charm and her eye on a potential Bollywood comeback, Sonam’s enthusiasm for a Tirchi Topiwale remake could reignite the magic of one of the most memorable songs in Hindi cinema history.
