Olivia Hussey Eisley, the legendary actress who captivated audiences with her performance as Juliet in Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, has passed away at the age of 73. Her death was confirmed on Friday, December 27th, by filmmaker Marc Huestis and announced on her Instagram. Hussey, who had battled breast cancer for years, died peacefully at her home, surrounded by loved ones.

Hussey first gained fame as a teenager when she was cast in Zeffirelli’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s tragic romance. She was just 16 years old during the filming, where she starred alongside Leonard Whiting. The film’s groundbreaking casting of young actors and its artistic execution made it a global sensation. It garnered several accolades, including Academy Award nominations and a Golden Globe nod for Hussey as a promising newcomer.
