Last week, Rajinikanth greeted UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath with a namaste followed by touching his feet during a meeting, which led to criticism on social media. Responding to this, the actor explained his gesture upon returning to Chennai. He stated, "It is my habit to touch the feet of Yogis or Sanyasis and take their blessings, even if they are younger than me. I have done that only."

Rajinikanth also expressed appreciation for the success of his recent film "Jailer," which earned over ₹5 billion globally within 11 days of release. When questioned about the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he declined to discuss politics, focusing on other matters.

During his UP visit, Rajinikanth organized a special screening of "Jailer," attended by UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya. He also had a meeting with the Samajwadi Party Chief, Akhilesh Yadav, at his residence.

The online reactions to Rajinikanth's gesture were mixed. Some criticized it, calling it awkward and surprising, while others defended it as a mark of respect for Yogi Adityanath's role as a Nath Yogi and the head of Gorakhnath Math.

"Jailer" narrates the tale of a retired police officer who leverages his ties with ex-convicts to shield his son from a menacing gangster. The film's remarkable success at the global box office earned it a spot in the ₹500 crore club, making it the second film of Rajinikanth's to achieve this milestone after "2.0."
