Rajinikanth Dazzles, But Story Falls Flat

The much-awaited Tamil film Coolie is finally on the big screen. Fans in Chennai must wait until 9:00 pm for the Thalaivar darisanam, but lucky audiences in the US enjoyed the premiere at 6:30 pm EST (4:00 am IST). The release is no less than a festival for Rajinikanth’s die-hard followers, especially as it marks his golden jubilee — 50 years in the film industry.

Overseas Reviews Spark Debate

While Indian audiences wait eagerly, early reviews from overseas have raised eyebrows. Social media buzz suggests Coolie falls short of expectations due to monotonous storytelling. Many feel the star-studded cast became a drawback, as the director failed to give each character a unique identity.

Thalaivar’s Swag Still Intact

Rajinikanth’s signature style, particularly in the de-aging flashback scenes, is a visual treat. His charisma still manages to create goosebump moments. Unfortunately, the screenplay struggles to match his energy, making the film feel longer than it is.

Supporting Cast Performance

Despite big names, many supporting actors fail to make a mark. Nagarjuna shines as gangster Simon, while Soubin Shahir impresses as Dayal. However, the first half feels slow and predictable — a surprise coming from Lokesh Kanagaraj, known for his engaging narratives.

Climactic Redemption

The film truly picks up in its final act. The last 20 minutes are pure cinematic fireworks — loaded with explosive action, thrilling sequences, and the dramatic flair that fans love about Lokesh Kanagaraj’s filmmaking style.

Music Fails to Hit High Notes

Anirudh Ravichander’s soundtrack has been described as ‘average’, falling short of the high expectations his name commands. Still, with Coolie being Rajinikanth’s 171st film and a milestone celebration, fans in India might embrace it more warmly than overseas audiences.
