Leo vs Coolie

Rajinikanth’s Coolie vs Vijay’s Leo: Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie brings back Rajinikanth in a mass entertainer as Deva, a former gold smuggler. With golden watches, stolen technology, and a gang revival, the film sets up an epic Rajinikanth spectacle.

Coolie's Record-Breaking Opening

The film created history with an opening day collection of around Rs.150 crore worldwide, the biggest ever for a Tamil film. By Sunday, it had added Rs.35 crore, taking its early numbers to a massive Rs.300+ crore globally.

Box Office Dip

Despite the strong start, Coolie faced a dip on its first Monday with just Rs.8.37 crore in India across languages, selling around 62,000 tickets. In contrast, Vijay’s Leo had registered 4.8 lakh ticket sales on its first Monday.

Coolie Vs Leo

Vijay’s Leo collected Rs.145 crore worldwide on Day 1, slightly behind Coolie. However, after four days, Leo raced ahead with Rs.403.5 crore, while Coolie managed around Rs.320 crore. This shows Vijay’s film had better consistency.

Tamil Cinema’s Global Reach

Both films underline the rising dominance of Tamil cinema worldwide. Leo eventually grossed Rs.595–615 crore globally, making it the second-highest Tamil film of 2023 after Rajinikanth’s Jailer. Whether Coolie can surpass that mark remains to be seen.

The Rajinikanth Factor

With Rajinikanth celebrating 50 years in cinema, the fan buzz is expected to push Coolie further in the coming weeks. The box office battle is fierce, but Lokesh Kanagaraj stands tall as the director behind both megahits.
